MacDonald Sets 3,000 Meter Steeplechase Record in Season Opener

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire - University of Maine at Farmington senior standout Anna MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) kicked off her 2025 outdoor track and field campaign strong, breaking the program record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. MacDonald posted a time of 12:20.29 at today's SNHU Invitational.

Top Beaver Performances

MacDonald, who has been a consistent force for the Beavers throughout her career, started her outdoor season on the right foot in earning the program's all-time record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. MacDonald placed third overall in the event. The previous record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase belongs to Chloe Kenyon who posted a time of 13:05.93 back in 2018.

Sophomore Lina Martinez Nocito (Mt. Vernon, Maine) raced to a second place finish in the 800 meters, finishing with a personal best time of 2:29.45. The time of Martinez Nocitio is good for third in program history. She also added a tenth place finish in the mile, posting a time of 5:45.04 in the event.

Senior Cara Perry (Stoughton, Mass.) finished tenth overall in the 400 meters, posting an impressive time of 1:09.74 amongst high-end competition. 

Senior Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine) opened the outdoor season where she had left off in the indoor season, finishing with a time of 1:12.38 in the 400 meter hurdles. Burr placed fifth overall in the event. 

Alongside MacDonald in the 3,000 meter steeplechase was junior Eve Poteet (Fair Hill, Maryland) and sophomore Abby MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) who each finished inside the top-ten. Poteet posted a time of 12:39.65 to place fifth while MacDonald finished tenth with a time of 15:44.98.

The Beavers' 4x100 meter relay team of Perry, Burr, Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine), and Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) raced to a time of 51.65 seconds, finishing fourth.

First-year Emma Syphers (Bangor, Maine) had a pair of strong showing, placing fifth overall in both the long jump and the triple jump. Syphers' best attempt in the long jump was measured at 4.88 meters. Her furthest jump was measured at 9.99 meters in the triple jump.

Senior Kaitlyn Harmon-Bolding (Biddeford, Maine) performed very well in her events, earning top-ten finishes in the discus and the hammer throw. Harmon-Bolding placed fifth in the discus with a throw measured at 29.87 meters. Her best weight throw attempt was measured at 35.67 meters, good for tenth place.

The Beavers will be back in action next Saturday at the Springfield Invitational hosted by Springfield College.
