STANDISH, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington women's track and field team competed at two different events on Friday, with 12 athletes participating in the Monks Invitational hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine, and two of those athletes competing later in the evening at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College.
Top Beaver Performances:
At the Silfen Invitational, senior Anna MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) and junior Eve Poteet (Fair Hill, Maryland) each qualified for the New England Championships. MacDonald qualified in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Poteet qualified in the 10,000 meters. MacDonald ran a personal-best time and set a new program record of 12:09.73, placing 13th overall in a competitive field.
Poteet also ran a personal-best time and now ranks second all-time in program history in the 10,000 meters, finishing in 40:58.49 and placing 17th overall.
At the Monks Invitational, the Beavers' 4x100-meter relay team captured first place. The group—Cara Perry (Stoughton, Mass.), Emma Syphers (Bangor, Maine), Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine), and Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine)—posted a winning time of 52.82 seconds.
Sophomore Lina Martinez Nocito (Mt. Vernon, Maine) continued her strong outdoor season, winning the 1,500 meters in dominant fashion. She finished 30 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor with a time of 5:18.31. She also added a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters with a strong time of 1:07.67. Todd placed ninth in the same event, finishing in 1:11.91.
In the 100-meter dash, Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine) and Johnson placed second and third, respectively. Burr clocked in at 13.17 seconds, while Johnson followed at 13.33 seconds. Johnson also took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.77 seconds. She capped off her day with a first-place finish in the triple jump, recording a top attempt of 10.33 meters.
Perry and Todd also placed inside the top ten in the 200 meters. Perry finished fourth with a time of 28.41 seconds, while Todd took eighth in 29.42 seconds.
Abby MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) earned a third-place finish in the 10,000-meter run, posting a strong time of 46:21.57.
Syphers placed sixth overall in the long jump with her top attempt measured at 4.68 meters.
Senior Kaitlyn Harmon-Bolding (Biddeford, Maine) placed ninth overall in the hammer throw with a best mark of 34.00 meters.
