Allen’s Power Surge Sparks Beavers to Doubleheader Sweep of Presque Isle

FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington softball team swept a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader against The University of Maine at Presque Isle on Friday afternoon, showcasing strong offense and great pitching. In game one, the Beavers exploded at the plate, cruising to an 11–4 victory. Game two featured another impressive offensive display, to propel Farmington to a commanding 12–1 win.

Game One | Beavers 11, Owls 4

The Beavers broke open the scoring in the top of the second inning when Olivia Paradis (Saco, Maine) singled home Christa Allen (Harrison, Maine) to take an early 1-0 lead. The Beavers added to their advantage in the third inning as Allen delivered the game's biggest blow—a three-run homer to left field, extending Farmington's lead to 4-0.

Presque Isle got on the board in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by Gracelyn Walsh, trimming the lead to 4-1. However, the Beavers immediately responded in the fourth with a two-run single from Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) and an RBI double by Maddie Pike (Kennebunk, Maine) to push the lead to 7-1.

Farmington continued to pull away, scoring three additional runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Melissa Mayo (Bridgton, Maine). The Owls fought back briefly in the fifth, plating three runs to narrow the margin to 10-4, but Katie Morse's (Dixfield, Maine) solo homer in the sixth inning sealed an 11-4 win for the Beavers.

Allen led the Beavers's offense in game one with four RBIs, while Dow recorded three hits and two RBIs. Morse and Paradis also contributed multi-hit performances, helping the Beavers tally 15 hits in the contest.

In the circle for the Beavers, Mayo tossed 4.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on just three hits while striking out four. Lisa Truchin (Torrance, Calif.) delivered 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, scattering four hits to secure the victory.

Game Two | Beavers 12, Owls 1

Farmington kept the momentum going into the second game, quickly jumping out to a 3-0 first-inning lead on a two-run single by Allen and a sacrifice fly by Pike. Allen stayed hot, driving in another run in the third with an RBI double and adding an RBI single in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-1.

The Beavers' offense put an exclamation point on the sweep with six runs in the top of the seventh inning. Key hits included a two-run double from Abby Wrinn (Wolcott, Conn.) and RBI knocks from Morse and Paradis, breaking the game open, extending the Beavers' lead up to 12-1.

The Beavers starting pitcher Mack Bergen (Winnipeg, Manitoba) turned in a dominant performance, pitching a complete game and allowing just one unearned run on five hits while striking out eight without issuing a walk.

Allen again starred offensively with three hits and four RBIs, finishing the day with eight RBIs across the doubleheader. Dow also scored four times in the second game, capping a productive day at the plate.

Zoe Stewart scored on an error in the bottom of the first, the only run of the game for the Owls.

The Beavers will look to maintain their winning ways as they continue once again square off with  UMaine-Presque Isle on Saturday in another doubleheader. Games are slated for 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
