Beavers Explode for 31 Runs in Saturday Sweep Over Owls

FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington softball team put on an offensive showcase in Saturday's home doubleheader, sweeping UMaine-Presque Isle by scores of 8-0 and 23-1 at Prescott Field.

With the two wins, the Beavers improved to 9-11 on the season. The Owls dropped to 2-17 overall.


Game 1: UMF 8, UMPI 0


The University of Maine at Farmington delivered a dominant performance on both sides of the ball in an 8-0 shutout victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) on Saturday in a softball matchup between two North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opponents.


UMF jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first four innings and never looked back. The Beavers scored twice in the first on an RBI double from Christa Allen (Harrison, Maine) and a defensive miscue by the Owls. Olivia Paradis (Saco, Maine) added an RBI in the third, the Beavers also took advantage of multiple errors to extend the lead.


Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) delivered a two-run single in the fifth to help push the score to 8-0. UMPI was held scoreless through seven innings, sealing the shutout victory for UMF.


Carleigh Schievink (Charlestown, Mass.) earned the win in the circle for UMF, tossing a complete-game shutout in her first start of the season. She scattered five hits and struck out six. Megan Bucholz took the loss for UMPI.


Game 2: UMF 23, UMPI 1 (5 innings)


Game 2 was all Beavers from the start. UMF exploded for eight runs in the first inning and followed with a 12-run second inning to break the game wide open. Abby Wrinn (Wolcott, Conn.) went 4-for-5 with seven RBIs, including a two-run double and multiple run-scoring singles. Katie Morse (Dixfield, Maine) went 3-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs, and three runs scored.


Farmington added three more runs across the third and fourth innings to finish with 15 hits and 23 runs—their highest single-game total of the season.


Taylor Truman (Monmouth, Maine) also shined, scoring four times and knocking in two, while B. Miller delivered a triple and 2 RBIs. The Beavers racked up 15 hits, drew 7 walks, and were hit by 4 pitches.

UMPI struggled defensively, committing five errors and using three pitchers who collectively allowed 23 runs
(17 earned). M. Bucholz drove in the Owls' lone run.


Lisa Truchin (Torrance, Calif.) earned the win, throwing a complete-game five-hitter while allowing one earned run and striking out four. Gracelyn Walsh was tagged with the loss.


Up Next:


UMaine-Farmington returns to action on Tuesday as they host a non-conference doubleheader against St. Joseph's (ME). First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at Prescott Field.
