FARMINGTON, Maine – The visiting Husson University Eagles scored twice in a span of just six minutes and 17 seconds to earn a 2-0 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CMCFHC) action on Tuesday afternoon at Prescott Field.
The Records:
The Beavers dropped to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in CMCFHC play with the setback. The win was Husson's second of the season, improving the Eagles to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in conference action.
How It Happened:
The opening quarter was evenly played, with neither side generating sustained pressure. Farmington held the edge in opportunities, earning two penalty corners to Husson's one. The Beavers thought they had struck first when Zoey Pennell (Saco, Maine) buried a shot off a penalty corner, but the goal was disallowed because the ball never entered the circle before the shot.
Husson built momentum midway through the second quarter and broke the deadlock in the 27th minute. Lauryn Brown muscled home a finish off a feed from Brianna Smith, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The Eagles doubled their advantage early in the third quarter. Off a penalty corner, Faith Tillotson inserted to Tessa Capozzoli, who ripped a shot on target. Ruby Kitchin redirected the drive into the cage to extend the lead to 2-0.
Farmington continued to fight, generating five second-half shots. The Beavers nearly cut the deficit in half when Pennell slipped a shot past Husson goalkeeper Ella Duchette, but defender Ella Louder cleared the ball off the line to preserve the shutout.
