FARMINGTON, Maine – After suffering their first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) loss of the season on Wednesday afternoon against Thomas College, the University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team bounced back on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over SUNY Cobleskill.
The Records:
With the win, Farmington improved to 4-3-1 overall and 3-1-0 in NAC play. Cobleskill dropped to 3-5-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the conference.
How It Happened:
The Beavers struck early and controlled both pace and possession throughout the match on their way to the win.
First-year midfielder Annimer Ibrahim (Lewiston, Maine) opened the scoring in the 14th minute after capitalizing on a Fighting Tiger turnover deep in their own end. Ibrahim intercepted an errant pass and went in alone on goalkeeper Joe Wille, calmly slotting the ball past him for his second goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
Farmington doubled the advantage in the 32nd minute when fellow first-year Garrett Gendreau (Waterville, Maine) scored his second career goal. Off a corner kick from sophomore JJ Greenlaw (Farmington, Maine), Gendreau found himself unmarked, settled the ball, and buried a shot into the corner to make it 2-0.
The Beavers held their two-goal cushion throughout the second half as Cobleskill managed just three shots, none of which were on target.
Farmington sealed the win in the 89th minute when junior forward Will Lavigne (Scarborough, Maine) netted his first collegiate goal, slipping a low shot past Wille to close out the scoring at 3-0.
