Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tracy’s Late Strike Helps Beavers to Tie with Delhi on Senior Day

FARMINGTON, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington senior forward Natalie Tracy (Oakland, Maine) scored her second goal of the game in the 88th minute, quickly answering Jordan DeNinno's strike just 31 seconds earlier, as the Beavers and SUNY Delhi battled to a 2-2 tie on Sunday afternoon at Leib Field in what was Senior Day for nine athletes.

Senior Spotlight:

Prior to the start of the game, the Farmington women's soccer program had the privilege of honoring their nine seniors alongside their families for the lasting impact they will leave behind for years to come. The senior group included Rita Benoit (Hallowell, Maine), Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine), Tiegan Eisenhaur (Sanford, Maine), Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine), Kayla Lee (Farmingdale, Maine), Kiley Meader (Oakland, Maine), Liana Sawyer (Londonderry, N.H.), Tracy, and Hannah Wilbur (Farmington, Maine).

The Records:

The draw is the first of the season for the Beavers, whose record now sits at 6-2-1 overall and 4-0-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action. Delhi is now 2-7-1 overall and 0-3-1 in NAC play.

How it Happened:

The game began as a possession battle, with both teams controlling the ball primarily through the midfield and generating very few shots.

The Beavers got on the scoreboard first when Tracy tallied her first goal of the afternoon in the 39th minute. She dribbled through a defender and created space to blast a left-footed shot from just inside the top of the penalty area. Her shot rang off the crossbar and dropped straight down before being picked up by Delhi goalkeeper Morgan Krouse. However, the assistant referee ruled that the ball had crossed the goal line, awarding Tracy her 14th goal of the season.

Farmington clung to the one-goal advantage into the opening minutes of the second half. Kaitlyn Hines delivered a corner kick directly onto the head of Ava Battista, who had sprung free and redirected the ball into the back of the net to tie the game 1-1 in the 56th minute.

The game remained even for much of the second half. Tracy got in behind the Bronco defense and was in alone with Krouse with less than eight minutes to play, but Krouse stood tall and denied the point-blank shot to preserve the tie.

After a stretch where the Beavers pressed for the game-breaking goal, a quick Delhi counter led to a strike from Jordan DeNinno in the 88th minute, giving the Broncos their first lead of the game.

The lead lasted just 31 seconds. Tracy carried the ball along the left sideline, cut toward goal, and rifled a shot into the upper right corner of the net to tie the game at 2-2, securing a positive result for the Beavers.

Stats of the Game:

Gonya played the full 90 minutes, recording one save for the Beavers. Krouse finished with five saves for the Broncos.
