CANNON, New Hampshire — University of Maine at Farmington senior standouts Lance Dolan (Coplin Plantation, Maine) and Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine) topped the podium in Friday's giant slalom, which served as the Beavers' season-opening event at Cannon Mountain.
As a team, Farmington claimed first place as its top three skiers combined for a time of 4:00.28, earning eight place points to edge Saint Joseph's College, which finished second. Bowdoin placed third, posting a cumulative team time of 4:20.13.
Top Beaver Skiers
Dolan led the way for the Beavers, earning the top spot on the podium as the fastest skier on the course by more than a second. He completed his first run in 38.59 seconds, 1.07 seconds faster than Saint Joseph's College skier Logan Davis, who sat in second place. After the course was reset, Dolan posted a second-run time of 40.25 seconds, combining for a total time of 1:18.84 to secure his first gold medal of the season.
Roy finished 1.05 seconds behind Dolan to take second place, posting a combined time of 1:19.89 across his two runs. He sat in third after the first run with a time of 39.73 seconds, then recorded the fastest second run of the day at 40.16 seconds to leapfrog Davis and claim silver.
Fellow senior Lake Lindelof (Belfast, Maine) was the third Beaver to score, finishing fifth with a combined time of 1:21.55. Lindelof clocked a 40.59-second first run and followed with a 40.96-second second run.
In total, Farmington placed six skiers in the top 10, with Sam McKee (Wayne, Maine), Magnus Riggs (Fletcher, Vt.), and Declan Varnerin (Stow, Mass.) also earning top-10 finishes.
