Women’s Hoops Pick up First Victory of 2026, 63-45 over Lyndon

FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team opened the second half of its season with a wire-to-wire victory over VTSU Lyndon on Monday afternoon, topping the Hornets, 63-45, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.

The Records:

The Beavers picked up their third straight victory, moving to 8-3 overall and improving to 6-1 in NAC play. The Hornets moved to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play following the loss.

How it Happened:

Farmington jumped out quickly in the first quarter on the shoulders of a dominant stretch from sophomore standout Jaydn Pingree (Jay, Maine). Pingree scored Farmington's first seven points of the game and 14 points in the opening quarter, including a perfect 6-of-6 performance from the free throw line, as the Beavers jumped out to an 18-6 lead after ten minutes of action.

Farmington was also ultra-locked on the defensive end of the floor in the opening quarter, forcing six Lyndon turnovers and turning those miscues into nine points on the offensive end.

Three-pointers from Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) and Melissa Mayo in the opening minutes of the second quarter extended Farmington's lead to as much as 18.

The Hornets responded by going on a 7-0 run, getting a pair of buckets in the paint from Kylar Begay as well as a layup from Nei'Shae Clegg to fuel the run and pull within ten at 28-18.

The Hornets continued to chip away in the third quarter, getting hot shooting from Hawa Mubarak, who hit a pair of threes off the bench to cut the deficit to seven with just under three minutes to play in the quarter.

The Beavers finished the quarter on an 8-3 burst that included a pair of buckets from Ruby McMinis to head into the fourth quarter up 45-33.

A mix of sharpshooting from Mayo and an outstanding defensive effort from junior forward Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) helped Farmington put the game away in the fourth. Mayo hit a pair of threes in the opening two and a half minutes of the quarter to stretch the lead to 16, while Dow recorded three blocks and a pair of steals in the quarter to help seal the victory.
