Men's Soccer Falls at Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team fell to the University of Southern Maine, 3-0, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening in Gorham.

The Records:


Farmington moved to 2-7-1 overall following the loss while Southern Maine improved to 3-4-2 on the season.


How it Happened:


The Beavers and Huskies traded scoring opportunities during the opening minutes, with Farmington goalkeeper Parker Day (Brentwood, N.H.) making several early saves to keep the game scoreless. Day turned aside shots from Jack Brady in the fourth and 20th minutes before stopping a header from Nick Mauro in the 16th minute.


Farmington generated several chances of its own during the opening half. Owen Spera (Gorham, Maine) forced a save from Southern Maine goalkeeper Gabe Wagner in the ninth minute, while JJ Greenlaw (Farmington, Maine) also had a shot turned aside by Wagner in the 18th minute.


Southern Maine broke through in the 32nd minute when Cole Johnson found the back of the net, an unassisted marker to give the Huskies a 1-0 advantage.


The first half was fairly evenly played with the Huskies holding a 10-6 advantage in shots with Day making four saves for Farmington and Wagner making three for the Huskies.

Southern Maine doubled its advantage in the 55th minute when Jonah Naratil scored an unassisted goal of his own to make it 2-0.

The Huskies tacked on an insurance goal in the 69th minute when Johnson scored his second of the game, with Nick Mauro earning the assist, to extend the Southern Maine lead to 3-0.

Farmington continued to battle throughout the final minutes, with Jackson Landry (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) forcing a save from Wagner in the 89th minute, but the Beavers were unable to get on the scoreboard.

The Goalkeepers:

Day made six saves over 75:30 while allowing three goals. Dylan Gagnon (Hudson, N.H.) played the final 14:30 and made one save. Wagner made five saves to earn the shutout for Southern Maine.

The Beavers will return to action on Saturday afternoon, playing host to Husson University at 1:00 PM at Leib Field.
