Women's Soccer Clinch 6th Seed in NAC Tournament with Win Over UMPI

FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Wednesday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Varsity Field. After a scoreless opening half, the Beavers broke through early in the second half with a goal from Vivian Bishop (North Rose, N.Y.) to secure the conference victory.

The victory for the Beavers locked them into the sixth seed in the upcoming NAC tournament.

The Records:

Farmington finished the regular season 2-13-2 overall and 2-5-0 in NAC play following the victory, while UMaine-Presque Isle fell to 1-12-1 overall and 1-6-0 in conference action.

How it Happened:

Farmington controlled the pace of play throughout the game, holding a heavy advantage in the possession battle from the opening whistle. The Beavers generated 12 shots and five corner kicks while holding UMaine-Presque Isle without a shot during the opening 45 minutes of action. Despite several scoring opportunities, including a shot from Halle Clifford (Blue Hill, Maine) that struck the post in the 30th minute, the Beavers were unable to find the back of the net before halftime.

The Beavers broke the scoreless tie just over two minutes into the second half. In the 48th minute, Bishop was sent in behind the Owls defense by a long through ball from Makenzie Rushlow and sniped the far side corner with a right-footed strike to give Farmington a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Bishop's second of the season and Rushlow's first assist.

Farmington continued to apply pressure throughout the second half, recording another 12 shots and earning six more corner kicks. Miah Coffin (Otis, Maine) nearly added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute, but her long range shot struck the crossbar.

Hannah Milliken (Greene, Maine) had an opportunity to extend the lead as well in the 76th minute Farmington up two, but UMPI goalkeeper Michaela Carney made a kick save to keep Farmington's advantage at just one.

The Beavers' defensive effort held strong the rest of the way, as Farmington secured the 1-0 victory and its second conference win of the season.
