FARMINGTON, Maine — University of Maine at Farmington junior forward Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) was named to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) First Team of the Week. Dow became the first UMF player to earn this honor since the award was established in the 2022-2023 season.
Along with the First and Second Team of the Week honors, the organization highlights both the Player and Rookie of the Week. Prior to NEWBA recognizing the First and Second Team Athletes of the Week, the organization did a weekly honor roll.
Over the course of the week, Dow helped lead the Beavers to a pair of key conference wins, finishing with a 2–1 record. During the team's three games, the junior forward averaged 16.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.3 steals, and 1.0 block, continuing to excel on both sides of the ball.
On Tuesday, the Beavers put up a strong fight against a tough Colby College squad. Dow posted 13 points and three rebounds while shooting 5-of-11 from the floor and finishing a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.
On Friday, UMF traveled to Vermont to face VTSU-Johnson, where Dow led the team in points and assists as the Beavers toppled the Badgers. She finished with 15 points, three assists, and two steals while shooting an efficient 64 percent from the field.
The Beavers quickly turned around to face VTSU-Lyndon the following day, where Dow sparked a double-digit comeback while filling up the stat sheet. She led the team in all five major statistical categories, finishing with 21 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, four steals, and three blocks. She also recorded a career high in free throws made, finishing with 13.
Dow is averaging 11.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.7 steals during her junior campaign. Dow and the Beavers return to the court on Saturday the 14th against Maine Maritime, with the regular-season NAC championship on the line.
