Beavers Blow Past Badgers, 76-37

JOHNSON, Vermont - The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team led from start to finish on Friday evening, taking down VTSU Johnson, 76-37, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.

The Records:

The Beavers continued their fantastic season, moving to 17-6 overall and 14-2 in NAC play. Johnson dropped to 5-16 overall and 4-10 in conference action with the loss.

How it Happened:

Farmington jumped out to a quick 11-2 lead in the opening four minutes of the first quarter. Junior forward Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) scored six quick points, all in the paint, before the run was capped by a three from sophomore guard Jaydn Pingree (Jay, Maine).

After a 6-0 run by the Badgers, buckets from Dow, Kytana Williamson (Nobleboro, Maine), and Lilly Gray (Benton, Maine) in the closing minutes of the first quarter helped Farmington take a 17-8 lead into the second quarter.

Pingree opened the second quarter with her second three of the game, and three more buckets from Dow pushed the Beavers' lead to 15 with five and a half minutes remaining until halftime.

Farmington took a 31-15 lead into halftime and then broke the game wide open in the third quarter. The Beavers scored 32 points in the period, shooting 12-for-23 from the field and forcing eight Johnson turnovers to open up a 63-23 lead heading into the fourth. The quarter began with eight points from Audrey Mackie (South Thomaston, Maine), including consecutive threes to set the tone. Mackie went on to score 10 points in the quarter to help Farmington pull away. Gray added six points in the frame.

Farmington pushed its lead to as much as 44 in the fourth quarter and coasted to the weekend-opening victory.

Leaders - Farmington:

  • Dow finished with 15 points, shooting an efficient 7-of-11 from the floor while adding three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
  • Pingree also totaled 15 points, shooting 5-of-11 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc to go along with five rebounds.
  • Mackie finished with 10 points, four rebounds, and three steals.
  • Gray chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench.

Leaders - Johnson:

  • Kristie Zator led all scorers with 19 points, shooting 7-of-14 from the field. She also added seven rebounds and three steals while playing all 40 minutes.
  • Abbie Hernandez added eight points.

Farmington will look to complete the Vermont sweep on Saturday afternoon, taking on VTSU Lyndon at 3:00 p.m.
