SOUTH HADLEY, Massachusetts - The University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse team hung tough for 35 minutes on Sunday morning, but the wheels fell off midway through the third quarter as the Beavers fell, 19-9, on the road against Mount Holyoke on day two of their back-to-back to open their 2026 campaign.
The Records:
Sunday's game marked the second contest of the early season for each program. Farmington dropped to 0-2 following the loss, while the Lions improved to 2-0 with the victory.
How it Happened:
The opening quarter was a game of runs. The Lions came out and threw the first punch, scoring four goals during the opening six minutes and 17 seconds of action. Juliana Spaulding scored a pair, while Emi Bisson added a goal and two assists during the game-opening run for Mount Holyoke.
Farmington quickly settled in, responding with three unanswered goals to pull within one with two minutes still to play in the first quarter. First-years Miah Coffin (Otis, Maine), Bree Griffin (Wilton, Maine), and Kylie Delile (Clinton, Maine) all scored their first collegiate goals to help make it a 4-3 game.
Mount Holyoke had the answer, taking advantage of a pair of Farmington cards and scoring two man-advantage goals in the final 74 seconds of the opening quarter to take a three-goal lead into the second.
Erin Gould (Lebanon, Maine) got the scoring started in the second quarter, netting her second goal in as many days. The Lions responded once again, as Elle Mader and Bisson scored goals 75 seconds apart to regain a four-goal advantage.
The Beavers answered with goals from senior Lauren Girouard (Concord, Vt.) and a second tally from Coffin to make it an 8-6 game with 3:20 left to play in the first half.
Bisson scored her fourth, and Spaulding added her third goal, sandwiching a Farmington goal from Emma Dunn (Farmington, Maine) in the final two minutes of the half as the Lions took a 10-7 lead into halftime.
Dunn scored her second goal just 43 seconds into the third quarter to once again make it a two-goal game.
Following Dunn's goal, Mount Holyoke scored nine unanswered goals to pull away and seal the victory. Six different Lions found the back of the net during the game-clinching run.
