Dunn’s Heroics Lead Beavers to Overtime Victory at Dean

FRANKLIN, Massachusetts - Junior midfielder Emma Dunn (Farmington, Maine) played the hero on Thursday evening, tallying her sixth goal four minutes and 35 seconds into overtime to lift the Beavers to a 14-13 win over Dean College in non-conference action.

The Records:

Both teams came into Thursday's contest looking for their first win, with both sitting at 0-2. The win moved Farmington to 1-2 while the Bulldogs fell to 0-3 in the early season.

How it Happened:

In a seesaw, back-and-forth battle, it was the Beavers who jumped out to an early lead during the opening quarter. Dunn found a cutting Lauren Girouard (Concord, Vt.) in front of the net and Girouard then fired a shot into the back of the net to open the scoring just four minutes and 14 seconds into the game. Farmington continued scoring, tacking on a pair of goals across the next seven and a half minutes of action to open up a 3-0 lead. Sadie Harvey (Bethel, Maine) scored the first while Dunn added her first goal of the game during the stretch for Farmington.

Dean found an answer in the closing minutes of the opening quarter as Ailey Pequita got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard for the first time with 2:23 left in the first. Alisha Caldeira was credited with the assist. Caldeira then tacked on a goal of her own three minutes and 15 seconds into the second quarter to pull the Bulldogs back within one.

Senior attacker Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) scored her first of four goals just 27 seconds after Caldeira's goal to put an end to the Bulldogs' run. Five minutes later, Caldeira and Dunn exchanged goals as the Beavers continued to cling to a narrow advantage, 5-3 with five and a half minutes left to play in the first half.

Ali Murphy and Pequita each scored in the final two and a half minutes of the second quarter, tying the score at five heading into halftime.

Dunn scored a goal just 20 seconds into the third quarter that was the first of four unanswered goals for the Beavers, who went up 9-5, their largest lead of the game. Dunn added a second, while Harvey and McMinis each scored a goal during the stretch for Farmington.

The Bulldogs answered with four straight goals of their own to knot the game at nine just 20 seconds into the fourth quarter. Bella McQuade, Emma Mock, Pequita, and Caldeira scored the goals during the run for Dean.

McMinis put an end to the Bulldog momentum, scoring her third goal to help Farmington reclaim the lead. Dunn doubled Farmington's lead just a minute later, making it 11-9 with just over 11 minutes left to play. The goal for McMinis was her third of the game and the 100th of her career. McMinis became just the third player in program history to cross the 100-goal mark.

Dean answered in a big way, scoring three goals in just 49 seconds of game time to turn a two-goal deficit into a one-goal lead. Allie Stockwell, Caldeira, and Ali Murphy were credited with the goals for the Bulldogs.

Harvey scored a goal while Farmington was playing down a player to knot the game at 12 inside the final four minutes of play.

Mock found the answer for the Bulldogs just a minute later, scoring an unassisted goal with two minutes and 50 seconds left in the game to put Dean up one.

Playing up a player in the final minute, McMinis found the equalizer, taking a feed from senior Ally Trefsger (South Portland, Maine) before ripping a shot into the back of the net to send the game into overtime.

In overtime, a fantastic individual effort from Dunn created the scoring chance. Dunn's unassisted goal was her sixth of the game, reaching a new career high for goals in a game.
