UMF Drops Tight 2-0 Contest at Bowdoin

Written by; Aaron Goschke '25

BRUNSWICK
, Maine –
The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team battled Bowdoin through a scoreless pitchers' duel for six innings before the Polar Bears broke through in the seventh to hand the Beavers a 2-0 loss on Sunday afternoon.

Bowdoin's pitching staff kept UMF off the board throughout the contest, but the Beavers had several opportunities to generate offense in a tightly played game. Tyler Rosa (Morgan Hill, Calif.) singled in the second inning, while Jameson Bloch (Attleboro, Mass.) doubled in the third to give UMF an early spark. Brady Vincent (Auburn, Maine) later delivered a ninth-inning single, and pinch runner Jackson Murray (Bath, Maine) advanced all the way to third to put the Beavers' first run just 90 feet away, but Bowdoin recorded the final out to secure the shutout.

UMF received a strong collective effort on the mound from Bloch, Will Buchholz (Maynard, Mass.), and Max Bryan (Walpole, Mass.), as the trio combined to keep Bowdoin to just two runs across eight innings. Maine-Farmington's staff kept the Polar Bears off the scoreboard through the first six frames and was backed by strong defense throughout the afternoon. The Beavers erased a scoring threat at the plate in the fourth inning and later picked off a runner to escape further trouble, while also turning a pair of double plays to preserve the scoreless deadlock into the late innings.

The Polar Bears finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh when Will Bordes led off the inning with a solo home run to left field. Later in the frame, Will Cooke added an RBI single to bring home an insurance run and extend Bowdoin's lead to 2-0.

Rosa, Bloch, and Vincent each recorded hits for the Beavers, who were limited to three hits on the day. Despite the result, UMF matched Bowdoin inning for inning for most of the afternoon in a strong showing against a NESCAC opponent.

The Beavers will look to bounce back as they travel to Florida for their annual spring trip. UMF opens the trip with a doubleheader against MCLA on Saturday in Winter Haven, Florida.
