Bates Tops UMF in Midweek Non-Conference Matchup

Written By; Aaron Goschke '26

LEWISTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team dropped a midweek non-conference contest at Bates College on Wednesday afternoon, falling 34-7 at Leahey Field.

Bates 34 - Farmington 7

UMF struck first in the top of the first inning as Hayden Durrell (Madrid, Maine) worked a walk and later scored on an RBI single up the middle by Tyler Rosa (Morgan Hill, Calif.) to give the Beavers an early 1-0 lead. Bates answered with four runs in the bottom half and added three more in the second to move in front 7-1.

The Beavers responded in the third, scoring four times without recording a hit. Jameson Bloch (Attleboro, Mass.), Brady Vincent (Auburn, Maine), and Rosa each reached to load the bases before Paul Vachon (Brookline, N.H.) and Sam Parsell (Newington, Conn.) were hit by pitches to force in runs. Jackson Murray (Bath, Maine) then reached on an error that brought home another run, and Ike Wrigley (Farmington, Maine) added an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 7-5.

UMF added two more in the fourth to get within 9-7. Bloch singled to lead off the inning, Rosa followed with a base hit through the right side, and Matt Marquis (Monmouth, Maine) lined an RBI single to center. Later in the frame, Parsell drew a bases-loaded walk to score the Beavers' seventh run.

That was as close as Farmington would get. Bates broke the game open with 15 runs in the bottom of the fourth and added 10 more in the fifth to pull away.

Rosa led UMF offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk, while Bloch also collected two hits and scored twice. Marquis drove in a run, and Parsell added two RBI.

Will Buchholz (Maynard, Mass.) took the loss for the Beavers, while Kaleb Hussey (Topsham, Maine), Max Bryan (Walpole, Mass.), Ethan Stokes (Lebanon, Maine), Kumalo Alm (Davenport, Calif.), Wrigley, and Matt Olynciw (Medway, Mass.) also appeared on the mound.

With the loss, UMF moved to 5-9 on the season, while Bates improved to 12-3 overall. The Beavers will return to action this weekend with a doubleheader vs. Maine-Augusta.
