BANGOR, Maine – After battling back to pull within one early in the second quarter, the University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse team surrendered a lengthy scoring run as Husson pulled away for a 14-8 victory in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
The Records:
Farmington fell to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in NAC play with the loss, while Husson improved to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
How it Happened:
Husson opened the game with four goals in the first 9:09, as Averi Baker, Kate Boehmcke, Reese Sullivan, and Laela Martinez each found the back of the net. Baker added assists on two of those tallies to pace the early surge.
First-year midfielder Miah Coffin (Otis, Maine) put Farmington on the board just inside the four-minute mark of the opening quarter, finishing a feed from Ally Trefsger (South Portland, Maine).
After Sullivan added her second goal of the game, the Beavers closed the gap late in the first quarter as Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) and Emma Dunn (Farmington, Maine) scored 37 seconds apart to make it 5-3 heading into the second.
Trefsger converted a man-up opportunity 2:18 into the second quarter to bring Farmington within one at 5-4.
From there, Husson seized control, scoring nine unanswered goals—including six over the final 10:08 of the second quarter—to build a 14-4 advantage. Martinez led the run with three goals, while Baker added two. Boehmcke, Madison Lower, and Gracie Gardner also contributed during the stretch.
Farmington showed resilience in the fourth quarter, scoring four times to close the gap. McMinis netted two goals, while Dunn and Erin Gould (Lebanon, Maine) each added one to account for the 14-8 final.
