FARMINGTON, Maine – After losing the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, the University of Maine at Farmington (8-17, 6-6) baseball team bounced back to earn a crucial North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory in game two over SUNY Cobleskill (12-15, 10-4). The Beavers lost game one 10-6 but came back to win 13-8 in game two.
Saturday also marked Senior Day for the Beavers, as they honored five seniors who will graduate as part of the class of 2026.
Game One: SUNY Cobleskill 10 - Farmington 6
Things did not go the Beavers' way in the early stages of game one. Cobleskill scored two runs in the first, one in the second, and four more in the third to open up a quick 7-0 lead.
In the first inning, Ryan Lansing and Tony Woodie hit back-to-back RBI doubles to bring in the first two runs of the game.
In the second, Cole Platt led off with a blast over the left-center field wall to extend Cobleskill's lead to 3-0.
Cobleskill kept swinging the bat well in the third. Consecutive singles from Woodie and Korin Laurilla put runners on base for Logan Firment, who hit a ball just short of the fence, which hopped over for a ground-rule double, scoring both Woodie and Laurilla. Jesus Sarda followed with a two-run homer to left, making it 7-0 and chasing Farmington starter Will Buchholz (Maynard, Mass.) from the game.
First-year Kaleb Hussey (Topsham, Maine) came on in relief and worked around a two-out walk to retire the side.
Farmington managed just one hit through the first three innings off Cobleskill starter Reis Brammer. However, things changed in the bottom of the fourth when the Beavers scored six runs to make it a one-run game. Brammer lost his control, walking three and hitting two batters, allowing all six runs to score on just two hits. Paul Vachon (Brookline, N.H.) and Matt Marquis (Monmouth, Maine) were both hit by pitches with the bases loaded. Jackson Murray (Bath, Maine) drew a bases-loaded walk, and Tyler Rosa (Morgan Hill, Calif.) delivered the big hit – a two-run single up the middle to make it 7-5.
With runners at the corners and two outs, Rosa was picked off intentionally and got in a rundown long enough to allow Marquis to score, making it 7-6.
Cobleskill added two insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Woodie and Laurilla each hit two-out RBI singles, extending the lead to 9-6.
The Fighting Tigers tacked on another run in the seventh when Brandon Rotman singled, making it 10-6.
Farmington put runners at first and second with two outs in the seventh but couldn't capitalize. They also had a runner in scoring position in both the eighth and ninth innings but failed to score.
