FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse team dominated from the opening whistle and cruised to a 10-1 victory over Thomas College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Leib Field.
Saturday also served as Senior Day for the Beavers, as they honored their five seniors who will be graduating as part of the Class of 2026.
The Records:
Farmington moved to 4-9 overall and 2-2 in NAC play with the win. Thomas is now 4-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
How it Happened:
The first quarter was very much a defensive battle, as both teams were held scoreless for the opening five-plus minutes of action. Each team recorded just three shots in the quarter.
The Beavers were the first to get on the scoreboard, as senior attacker Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) scored her first of three goals to put Farmington up 1-0 with 9:16 left in the opening quarter.
The game remained 1-0 into the early moments of the second quarter when fellow senior Ally Trefsger took advantage of a man-up opportunity, scoring her eighth goal of the season to make it a 2-0 game.
Nearly five minutes later, McMinis tallied her second goal of the half, taking a feed from Emma Dunn (Farmington, Maine) and firing a shot into the back of the net to make it 3-0.
The game stayed at 3-0 heading into halftime, thanks in large part to the stellar play in net from senior Skye Cotnoir (West Gardiner, Maine). Cotnoir made three key stops in the opening period and added two more in the second quarter, including a free-position save.
In a similar sequence to the third goal, Dunn once again found an open McMinis in front of the net to set up her hat-trick tally, making it a 4-0 game just two and a half minutes into the third quarter.
Thomas got on the scoreboard for the first time nearly two minutes later when Katarina Olvera slipped a low shot past Cotnoir to make it a 4-1 game with 10:29 remaining in the third quarter.
Senior Lauren Girouard (Concord, Vt.) scored a pair of goals two minutes and seven seconds apart to push Farmington's lead to 6-1. McMinis was credited with the assist on Girouard's first goal, while Trefsger earned the assist on the second.
Dunn added to the scoring, taking a feed from Trefsger before rifling a close-range shot into the back of the net for her 25th goal of the season.
Farmington continued to extend its lead in the fourth quarter, as first-year midfielder Bree Griffin (Wilton, Maine) and Dunn each tallied goals just two and a half minutes in. First-year Erin Gould (Lebanon, Maine) tacked on the tenth goal of the game—her eighth of the season—as the Beavers closed out the wire-to-wire victory.
