Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Salem Starts Early and Coasts to Win Over Farmington

SALEM, Massachusetts - Salem State University scored 11 first-half goals on Wednesday afternoon and cruised to a 15-3 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in women's lacrosse action.

The Records:

Farmington fell to 3-6 overall after the loss, while the Vikings remained unbeaten, improving to 7-0 with the win.

How it Happened:

Salem's offense got rolling early, scoring just 16 seconds into the game as Hannah Cochran found the back of the net off a feed from Aislin Bennett.

After a Salem card gave the Beavers a man-up advantage, Ally Trefsger (South Portland, Maine) capitalized, scoring off a feed from Sadie Harvey (Bethel, Maine) to tie the game at one just 1:21 after Cochran's opening goal.

Jordan Turcotte responded 1:12 later with the first of her game-high six goals to give the Vikings a lead they would not relinquish. Turcotte added another goal later in the quarter, while Laura Young scored twice to help Salem State open up a 5-1 lead after one.

First-year midfielder Bree Griffin (Wilton, Maine) ended the Salem run, scoring an unassisted goal just 23 seconds into the second quarter to make it 5-2.

Salem responded with seven straight goals, including six in the second quarter. Turcotte scored four of those six goals, while Kaylee Rich added a pair as the Vikings took an 11-2 lead into halftime.

Young recorded her hat trick with 4:55 remaining in the third quarter to extend the Salem lead to ten. The double-digit margin was short-lived, however, as junior midfielder Emma Dunn (Farmington, Maine) scored her 15th goal of the season to make it 12-3.

Salem added three more goals in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Young scored twice, and Bennett added a man-up goal to cap the scoring.
