Beavers’ Offense Explodes in Doubleheader Sweep of UMaine-Fort Kent

FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team put together a dominant offensive performance on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against UMaine-Fort Kent with a 21-2 win in game one and a 25-5 victory in game two.


The Beavers scored in double figures in both contests, piling up 46 total runs across the twin bill while receiving contributions throughout the lineup.

Game One: UMaine-Farmington 21, UMaine-Fort Kent 2

UMaine-Farmington wasted no time setting the tone in the opener, plating six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Matt Marquis (Monmouth, Maine), Ike Wrigley (Farmington, Maine), and Jameson Bloch (Attleboro, Mass.) were each hit by a pitch to load the bases before Brady Vincent (Auburn, Maine) delivered a two-run single to put the Beavers in front. Tyler Rosa (Morgan Hill, Calif.) followed with an RBI double, Colby Lewis (Blue Hill, Maine) added an RBI single, Sam Parsell (Newington, Conn.) lifted a sacrifice fly, and Marquis capped the inning with an RBI single to make it 6-0.

The Beavers added six more runs in the third. Rosa and Paul Vachon (Brookline, N.H.) singled to start the rally before Lewis, Parsell, and Wrigley each drove in runs. Vincent later added a sacrifice fly as UMF pushed the lead to 12-0.

Vincent continued his strong day at the plate in the fifth, belting a two-run home run to extend the advantage to 14-0.

UMaine-Fort Kent got on the board in the sixth on an RBI groundout from Bradley Stoner, but the Beavers answered with seven runs in the bottom half. Joe Kalisz (East Haddam, Conn.) opened the frame with a single, Parsell doubled, and UMF continued to apply pressure with RBIs from Owen Harper (Mattascontis, Maine), Rosa, Ben Mello (Gloucester, Mass.), Vachon, Joseph Wellman-Clouse (Mount Desert Island, Maine), and Caden Gray (Orono, Maine).

Rosa finished 4-for-5 with a double, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Vincent drove in five runs, while Lewis, Parsell, Vachon, and Marquis each added multi-RBI production.

On the mound, Max Bryan (Walpole, Mass.) started and worked four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. Connor Harty (Lewisboro, N.Y.), Will Spratt (Dexter, Maine), and Kumalo Alm (Davenport, Calif.) followed in relief to help close out the win.

Game Two: UMaine-Farmington 25, UMaine-Fort Kent 5

The Beavers' offense carried its momentum into game two. After a scoreless first, UMF broke through for four runs in the second inning. Vachon, Mello, and Parsell strung together consecutive singles, with Parsell driving in the first run of the game. Marquis followed with a two-run single, and Wrigley added an RBI single to give the Beavers a 4-0 lead.

UMaine-Fort Kent responded with three runs in the top of the third, trimming the deficit to 4-3, but UMF immediately answered in the bottom half. Mello delivered a two-run double, and the Beavers added another run on a balk to stretch the lead to 7-3.

The fourth inning broke the game open. Rosa doubled home a run, Hayden Durrell (Madrid, Maine) followed with an RBI single, Parsell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Marquis walked in a run, Wrigley singled home two, and Bloch capped the eight-run inning with a two-run double to make it 15-3.

UMF added seven more runs in the fifth, highlighted by RBIs from Vachon, Mello, Bloch, Matt Olynciw (Medway, Mass.), and Armando Absalom (Columbia, Maine). The Beavers tacked on three more in the sixth, with Kyle Sawyer (Saco, Maine) driving in two on an infield single before Wellman-Clouse added a sacrifice fly.

Bloch led the way in game two, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs, and four runs scored. Marquis drove in three runs, Wrigley added four RBIs, Mello finished with four RBIs, and Vachon, Parsell, Rosa, and Durrell each contributed to the offensive surge.

Vincent started on the mound and gave the Beavers four innings, allowing three runs, none earned, while striking out five. Maddox Santone (Fairfield, Maine), Ryan Clark (Kennebunk, Maine), Ethan Stokes (Lebanon, Maine), and Gabe Philbrick (Florence, Mont.) combined to finish the game in relief.

The Beavers will return to action this weekend for their final conference series of the regular season when they travel to VTSU Lyndon for doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. UMaine-Farmington will need to take all four games against the Hornets to clinch a spot in the NAC playoffs.
