STANDISH, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Monday afternoon at the hands of Saint Joseph's College at Larry Mahaney Diamond. The Monks earned an 18-0 win in game one before securing a 6-5 walk-off victory in game two.
Game One; Saint Joe's 18 - Farmington 0
After a scoreless first inning, the Monks broke the game open in the bottom half of the second inning, scoring five runs on two hits while taking advantage of a pair of Farmington errors. Nic Frink led off the inning with a home run to the opposite field to get the offense rolling for the Monks.
After a hit by pitch, a single, and a walk loaded the bases, Luke Doughty hit a ground ball to shortstop that was misplayed, allowing the second run to score while everyone reached safely. Nick Brindle, who had singled, later scored on a fielder's choice, Matt Elwell scored on an error, and Josh Hersey scored on a passed ball to open up a 5-0 lead after two innings.
Frink continued to swing the bat well, ripping an RBI triple to the gap in right-center in the bottom of the fourth to bring home Jared Wilhelm, who had doubled, making it 6-0 Monks.
Things started to unravel for the Beavers in the bottom of the fifth as the Monks plated 12 runs to put the game away. Saint Joseph's pounded out nine hits in the inning while also taking advantage of two more Farmington defensive miscues. Connor Finn hit a pair of RBI singles in the inning, Frink added an RBI knock of his own, while Elwell and Michael Richards each drew bases-loaded walks to help the Monks extend the lead to 18-0.
The Beaver offense was held in check, managing five hits—all singles—but was unable to advance beyond second base for the entirety of the game.

Game Two; St. Joseph's 6 - Farmington 5
Offense was at a premium for much of game two. The Monks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to a three-run home run off the bat of Richards with two outs in the bottom of the first. Nick Brindle walked and Frink was hit by a pitch ahead of the three-run blast.
The Beavers got a solid outing from Jameson Bloch (Attleboro, Mass.), who settled in after the three-run first inning. Bloch worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the fourth, keeping Farmington within striking distance. Theo Masella, Terry Morrissey, and Finn all recorded consecutive one-out singles to load the bases before Bloch forced a weak pop up and then induced a lineout to end the threat.
Farmington produced just two hits in the first four innings off St. Joe's starter Nate Leavitt but made some noise in the top of the fifth, taking advantage of a pair of walks. Camden Cook (Littleton, N.H.) led off the inning with a walk and moved from first to third on a pair of groundouts. Ike Wrigley (Farmington, Maine) drew a two-out walk to put runners on the corners. A wild pitch allowed Cook to score before Leavitt recorded a flyout to end the inning.
Farmington loaded the bases in the top of the sixth on singles from Brady Vincent (Auburn, Maine) and Hayden Durrell (Madrid, Maine), along with a walk from Cook. Monks reliever Ryan Thurber entered with two outs and struck out Sam Parsell (Newington, Conn.) to escape the jam.
The Beaver offense came to life in the top of the seventh. Sam Markowitz (Boothbay, Maine) led off the inning with a single and moved to second after Wrigley reached on an error. After a strikeout, Bloch also reached on an error to load the bases with one out. Vincent followed with a two-run double to tie the game at three. Bloch attempted to score on the play but was thrown out at the plate for the second out of the inning.
After a Tyler Rosa (Morgan Hill, Calif.) single put runners on the corners, Jackson Murray (Bath, Maine) beat out an infield single as Vincent crossed the plate to give the Beavers their first lead of the game. Cook followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
The Monks capitalized on a pair of errors in the inning, scoring three runs to walk off with the victory. Doughty ripped a one-out single and later scored on a SAC fly from Elwell to make it a 5-4 game. The ball was dropped on the play, allowing Elwell to reach and load the bases. With two outs, Theo Masella lined a single down the left-field line to drive in two runs and secure the win for Saint Joseph's.
