BRUNSWICK, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's cross country team earned sixth place on Saturday at the Maine State Championships hosted by Bowdoin College. The Beavers' top-five finishers tallied 176 points and finished with a combined time of 2:16:19 en route to the sixth-place finish.
Bates College earned the state title, scoring 42 points with a combined time of 2:07:48 to narrowly edge the University of Maine for the victory.
Beaver Runners:
The Beavers were paced by senior Andrew LaFlamme (Nashua, N.H.) on Saturday. LaFlamme finished the 8K course in 26:41.5 while averaging 5:22.1 per mile to earn 46th place overall.
Finishing just one place behind LaFlamme was first-year Mason Tomboni (Selma, Ind.). Tomboni ran a time of 26:49.1 with an average mile time of 5:23.7 en route to a 47th-place finish.
Fellow first-year Levi Riggs (Phippsburg, Maine) had a strong showing for the Beavers, placing 59th overall with a time of 27:26.1. Riggs averaged 5:31.1 per mile for the event.
Junior Samuel Perkins (Jay, Maine) was the fourth Beaver across the finish line, placing 65th overall. Perkins posted a time of 27:40.5 with an average mile time of 5:34.0 for the 8K.
Junior Alexander Gagnon (Goffstown, N.H.) placed just two spots behind Perkins, finishing the race with a time of 27:42.7 en route to a 67th-place finish. Gagnon posted an average mile time of 5:34.5.
