CASTINE, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team opened their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) schedule on Saturday afternoon on the road against Maine Maritime Academy. The Mariners got the best of the Beavers, earning a 3-0 victory.
The Records:
Farmington moved to 0-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play following the loss. Maine Maritime improved to 3-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.
How it Happened:
Maine Maritime started quickly and opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Hadley Stoddard found the back of the net off an assist from Mayako Brown to give the Mariners an early 1-0 advantage.
The Beavers looked to respond following Stoddard's game-opening goal. First-year forward Halle Clifford (Blue Hill, Maine) and sophomore Kyri Meak (Winslow, Maine) each ripped a pair of shots in the subsequent 14 minutes of play forcing Mariner goalkeeper Isa Thesing to make three saves to preserve the lead.Â
The Mariners doubled their advantage in the 39th minute when Harlow O'Leary scored off an assist from Stoddard, sending Maine Maritime into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
After taking a 2-0 advantage into the second half, Maine Maritime extended its lead in the 55th minute when Abby Wong found the back of the net off an assist from Taylor Webster, making it a 3-0 game.
After posting six shots in the first half of play, the Beavers were unable to mount substantial pressure during the second half, mustering just one shot which Thesing turned aside to earn the shutout victory.Â

The Goalkeepers:
Roo Sawyer (Londonderry, N.H.) made six saves in the loss for the Beavers. Thesing made four saves to earn the shutout victory for the Mariners.
