Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Fisher Tops Farmington in Back-and-Forth Battle, 4-3

FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team held a pair of one-goal advantages during the opening half, but Fisher College scored twice in the second half to secure a 4-3 victory over the Beavers on Tuesday afternoon at Leib Field.

The Records:

Farmington moved to 0-6-1 overall while Fisher moved to 4-2-0.

How it Happened:

The Beavers and Falcons traded scoring chances during the opening minutes before Fisher broke through in the 16th minute when Alonso Maruri found the back of the net off an assist from Andrew Ron to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Ron sent a through ball into Maruri who was all alone with
Farmington goalkeeper Will DiLella (Farmington, Conn.) and picked a corner for his first goal of the game.

Farmington answered just over three minutes later when Jackson Landry (Gorham, Maine) scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Jack Luciano (Gorham, Maine), beautifully executing a two-on-one opportunity to knot the game up at one.

The Beavers took their first lead of the afternoon in the 24th minute when Monte Weaver (Surry, Maine) scored his first goal of the season, heading home a cross off a free kick from Rafael Harron (Camas, Wash.), putting Farmington ahead 2-1.

Fisher pulled even just before halftime when Samuel Respeso scored in the 45th minute off an assist from Daniel Martin Ojeda, sending the two teams into the halftime break tied at two.

Fisher used the momentum from the closing second of the first half to fuel an early opportunity in the second half as they regained the lead just 14 seconds into the half when Maruri scored his second goal of the afternoon, heading home a cross from Santiago Blancuzzi, giving the Falcons a 3-2 advantage.

The Falcons extended its lead in the 59th minute when Blancuzzi found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season, an unassisted marker that put the visitors ahead 4-2.

Farmington responded in the 69th minute when Max Marden (Sidney, Maine) scored his first goal of the season, a perfectly placed shot into the side netting off an assist from Landry, cutting the deficit to 4-3.

The Beavers continued to pressure the Fisher defense throughout the remainder of the second half, but were unable to find the equalizer as the Falcons held on for the 4-3 victory.

The Goalkeepers:

DiLella made four saves in the loss for the Beavers, including three saves during the second half. Edoardo Berini made one save for Fisher to earn the victory.

The Beavers will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they play host to Lesley University in what will be Senior Day for Farmington. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
