Beavers and Blazers Battle to Scoreless Draw

CHICOPEE, Massachusetts - The University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw against Elms College on Friday afternoon, earning their first tie of the 2026 season at Leary Field.

The Records:

Farmington entered the match 0-1-0, looking for their first win of the season after dropping their opener at the hands of Saint Joseph's College. Elms entered 1-0-0 with a victor over SUNY Cobleskill in their season opener. 

How it Happened:

The two teams played an evenly contested opening half, with both sides creating several scoring opportunities but neither able to break through.

The Beavers generated five shots during the opening 45 minutes, including shots on goal from Fred Coit (Blue Hill, Maine), Garrett Gendreau (Waterville, Maine), and JJ Greenlaw (Farmington,  Maine), but Elms goalkeeper Jacob Horstmann was able to keep the match scoreless.

Farmington goalkeeper Hunter Frost (Monmouth, Maine) was equally impressive during the opening half, making two saves to preserve the shutout. Elms held a 6-5 advantage in shots heading into the intermission.

The Beavers continued to battle defensively throughout the second half as Elms ramped up its offensive pressure, firing nine shots during the final 45 minutes.

Will DiLella (Farmington, Conn.) entered the match in goal for Farmington to begin the second half and turned away five shots, including a pair of saves during a stretch midway through the half to keep the score level.

Farmington was unable to generate much offense in the second half, recording just two shots, but the defensive effort held strong as the Beavers earned the 0-0 draw.

The Goalkeepers:

Frost got the start in net for the Beavers, making two saves during the opening half.

DiLella came on to start the second half and made five saves over the final 45 minutes to preserve the shutout.

Horstmann earned the shutout for Elms, recording three saves.

UP NEXT

The Beavers will remain on the road and open up North Atlantic Conference play next Friday evening against Thomas College. Game time is set for 4:00 PM
