NORTHAMPTON, Massachusetts - Senior Gabby Vincentsen (Bristol, Maine) and junior Cadence Peters (Poland, Maine) scored goals just a minute and 13 seconds apart during the opening quarter of play as the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team never looked back en route to securing a 2-0 victory over Gordon College on day two of the Caryl Newhof Classic.
Sophomore Ruby Taylor (Poland, Maine), who scored Farmington's lone goal on Saturday against Westfield State, was named to the All-Tournament Team.
How it Happened:
The Beavers started quickly, mounting substantial pressure from the opening whistle. Just a minute and a half into the game, the Beavers were awarded a penalty stroke. Senior Bayley Casavant (Corinth, Maine) took the attempt, but Scot goalkeeper Haylee Briggs was up to the task, turning aside Casavant's shot to keep the game scoreless.
Farmington continued to apply pressure as a sequence of consecutive penalty corners put the Scots on their heels. Vincentsen was finally able to capitalize for the Beavers, scoring her first goal of the season at the 9:51 mark.
The Beavers' relentless pressure continued, forcing another penalty corner just a minute and five seconds after the Vincentsen goal. The Beavers perfectly executed the opportunity as Mikayla Wilcox (Farmington, Maine) found Peters in front of the goal, who redirected a shot into the back of the cage to mark her first career goal.
Farmington controlled play for the entirety of the opening half, outshooting the Scots 12-2 and holding an 8-1 advantage in penalty corners heading into halftime.
The game completely flipped in the second half as the Scots settled in and turned the tables on the Beavers. Gordon held an 11-3 advantage in shots and a 10-4 advantage in penalty corners over the final 30 minutes, generating five penalty corners in both the third and fourth quarters.
Senior goalkeeper Abigail Herlihy (Nashua, N.H.) entered the game at halftime for Farmington and stood tall in goal, turning away nine shots to help preserve the shutout victory.

The Goalkeepers:
Sophomore Hailey Johnson (Augusta, Maine) got the start in net, making one save during the first 30 minutes of action. Herlihy turned aside nine shots as the duo secured the shutout for Farmington.
Briggs made eight saves for the Scots in the hard-fought loss.
