Thompson joined the University of Maine at Farmington sports medicine team after completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. At UMPI, he served as an athletic training assistant for the men’s soccer team, men’s and women’s basketball, club hockey, and women’s softball.

Thompson interned at Colby College with the men’s lacrosse and ice hockey teams where he managed acute injuries and ran conditioning practices. He worked with developing rehabilitation/exercise programs and applying therapeutic modalities.

As a volunteer, Thompson served at the 2014 Youth/Junior World Biathlon Championship in Caribou, Maine, with the Aroostook Medical Center staff. In 2014, he worked with the First Aid/Anti-Doping team at the IBU World Youth/Junior Biathlon in Presque Isle.

In the dugout, Thompson has assumed the roles of American Legion baseball coach and assistant baseball coach at UMPI and Schenck High School. 

As a student-athlete, Thompson was a pitcher on the Owls baseball team. In his final three seasons, Thompson made 28 pitching appearances with 54 innings pitched. He also racked up 30 strikeouts, including 16 as a senior.

Originally from Millinocket, Maine, Thompson graduated from Schenck High School in 2010 and was a three-sport athlete in soccer, basketball, and baseball.
