Women's basketball stymied by St. Joseph's

STANDISH -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team was limited to 32 points in a 62-32 non-conference loss at St. Joseph's College (Me.) tonight.

Farmington (1-5) is scheduled to host University of New England Saturday at 1 p.m.

Jillian Ross (Belfast, Maine) scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds for Farmington, while Ashley Busque (Belgrade, Maine) added six points. The Beavers struggled to score from anywhere on the court, shooting 22.6 percent (12-53) from the field, 15.8 percent (3-19) from beyond the arc and 41.7 percent (5-12) from the foul line.

Abby Young paced the Monks (4-3) with 13 points followed by Megan McDevitt with 11 points and Alyssa Grigware with 10 points. Ashley Geel pulled down 12 rebounds as St. Joseph's outrebounded the Beavers 46-33.

Young scored 11 points and McDevitt provided nine points as the Monks amassed a 33-19 lead at intermission. Following a Holly Oliver (Belgrade Lakes, Maine) basket to tie the game at 2-2, the Beavers were dormant for 8:11 as the hosts took an 11-2 lead. The Monks used a 10-2 run later in the frame to take a 30-16 lead on their way to the intermission cushion.

The Beavers were held to a single field goal over the final 10:17 as the Monks finished off the contest with a 15-2 stretch to roll to the 62-32 win.
