Women's basketball jumps past Johnson State

JOHNSON, Vt. -- Jillian Ross (Belfast, Maine) scored 20 points as the University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team bounced back from a halftime deficit to defeat Johnson State College 72-58 in the North Atlantic Conference tonight

The Beavers (6-7 overall, 3-1 NAC) have won five of their last six games. Farmington is slated to play Lyndon State College Saturday at 2 p.m. in Lyndonville, Vt. The Badgers slipped to 4-9 (0-3).

The Beavers overcame a four-point halftime by outscoring host Johnson State College 45-27 in the second half.

Ashley Busque (Belgrade, Maine) tossed in 10 second-half points and tallied 13 points fo Farmington. Kenni Norton (Strong, Maine) chipped in with 14 points and Paige Saunders (Surry, Maine) added 11 points.

After a Jen Ferrari (Westfield, Mass.) bucket game Johnson their largest lead of the night at 33-27 Farmington responded with a 14-5 spurt that game the Beavers a 44-39 lead with 14:34 left to play and also a lead they would not relinquish.

Kristine Tatro's (Eden, Vt.) basket with 11:25 left cut the Beaver lead to 49-47, but Farmington answered with a 23-5 blitz and put the game out of reach.

JSC was paced by Ferrari and her game-high's of 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Lauren Lepage (Rumford, Maine) contributed 12 points for the Badgers who endured a 21 turnover night.
