Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington got four goals from four different players, a balanced attack that propelled the Beavers to a 4-0 North Atlantic Conference win over Thomas College, Wednesday night at Red Turf Field.
UMaine-Farmington improved to 8-5-1 overall, 5-1-1 in the NAC. The Beavers sit atop the NAC standings with 16 points, one point ahead of both Castleton and Husson with 15 points and two fewer conference games played than UMF. Thomas fell to 3-10-0 overall, 1-6-0 in the NAC.
Sophomore forward Ava Amador (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) got the game's first goal for the Beavers at the 6:35 mark as she got it past the hands of Terrier net minder Kate Thibodeau. Thibodeau would hold the opponents to that lone goal in the first half, coming up with nine saves.
UMF's advantage on the scoreboard would hold at 1-0 until the 59th minute, when senior Alida Peake (Penobscot, Maine/George Stevens Academy) would get an unassisted goal, picking the ball up in front of net. Keli McLellan (Northfield, Vt./Northfield) and Kayla Tuttle (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) would both find the back of the net for Farmington at the 69:14 and 83:21 marks respectively to give the away team a cushion.
"We've had a lot of different players score in the past few games, which has given us more options offensively," said UMF head women's soccer coach Molly Wilkie. "It's great to get another conference win, and set's us up well for our last three games, two of which are conference games."
The Beavers would end up outshooting the hosts 28-5, while holding a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks. UMaine-Farmington keeper Beth Lebel (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) was challenged just once with a shot on goal and recorded the save. Five of the Beavers' eight wins this season have been my shutout, including their last four victories.
Thibodeau finished the game with 13 saves overall for the Terriers.
UMaine-Farmington will face UMaine-Machias this Sunday, Oct. 17, at 12:00 p.m. at Prescott Field in Farmington.
