LEWISTON, Maine – UMaine-Farmington shot just 28 percent from the field and dropped a 63-39 decision to host Bates College, in non-conference women's basketball action Wednesday night at Alumni Gymnasium. 

Freshman forward Ayla Allen (Rumford, Maine/Mountain Valley) paced UMaine-Farmington (0-4) with 10 points on 3-of-11 shooting from the field and a 3-of-4 mark at the free-throw line. Allen also hit one of the Beavers' two 3-pointers on the night.

Freshman forward Elizabeth Ferry (Winslow, Maine/Winslow) added six points off the bench, while three other players chipped in with four points. Sophomore Lindsay Ranquist (Owls Head, Maine/Medomak Valley) grabbed a team-high six rebounds, while senior Kenni Norton (Strong, Maine/Mt. Abram) dished out five assists.

Bates (2-3) had three players finish in double figures, led by forward Taryn O'Connell's 7-of-15 shooting performance from the floor, including four treys, on her way to a game-high 18 points. Guard Allie Beaulieu charted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds with four assists.

The Beavers connected on 16 of their 57 field goal attempts (.281) for the game, trailing Bates' 24-of-66 clip (.364).

UMF missed its first eight field goal attempts of the game while spotting the Bobcats a 6-0 lead, and ended the half with a 5-of-27 shooting mark. Bates extended its lead to 16 points, 20-4, by 8:30 mark of the first half, and never let Farmington get to within 12 points of the lead.

Bates held a 47-38 rebounding advantage, while UMaine-Farmington committed 21 turnovers.

The Beavers return to the hardwood on Friday, Nov. 30, when they face Castleton State in a North Atlantic Conference matchup.
