CUMBERLAND, Maine -- University of Maine at Farmington senior Orion Cochrane (Greenville, Maine/Greenville) carded a 77 in Sunday's second round of the Maine Intercollegiate Championship to finish with a two-day total of 150 and tied for fourth place overall.
The event wrapped up Sunday at the Val Halla Golf Club in Cumberland, Maine, with UMaine-Farmington tied for eighth in the 10-team field with a score of 659. The Beavers were tied with Colby College.
Trailing Cochrane was junior Joe Messerman (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) was 24th overall with a 163, shooting 78 on Sunday after firing an 85 in Saturday's first round. Freshman Simon Rollins (South China, Maine/Erskine Academy) carded rounds of 86 and 82 for a two-day tally of 168 and tied for 33rd, while David Berthiaume (Allenstown, N.H./Pembroke Academy) posted a 178 with rounds of 90 and 88 and finished 44th.
The University of Southern Maine won the event with a team score of 595, followed by the University of New England with 616. Husson University (624), Saint Joseph's College of Maine (640), and Bates College (652) rounded out the top half of the field. Maine Maritime (655) and UMaine-Presque Isle (657) also finished ahead of UMaine-Farmington.
The UMF golf team will return to the links this Friday, Sept. 28, when it plays at the USM Cup at Gorham Country Club in Gorham, Maine.
