Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – Freshman midfielder Meryl Bond's (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy) goal in the 77th minute proved to be the decisive marker for the University of Maine at Farmington, as the Beavers eventually posted a 2-0 win over the University of Southern Maine, in non-conference women's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Prescott Field.
UMaine-Farmington improved to 5-3-0, matching the program's win total of a year ago. USM fell to 1-8-0 with the loss.
Bond chipped in a shot from inside the 18-yard box, taking a pass that had been passed forward by Noelle Moulton (Cape Neddick, Maine/York) for her first assist of the year.
Junior midfielder Kayla Tuttle (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) padded the UMaine-Farmington lead in the 86th minute, finding a loose ball inside the Huskies' 18 and scoring unassisted. The blast was one of Tuttle's team-high seven shots on the afternoon, leading a UMF squad that outshot Southern Maine, 18-8.
The Beavers also took five corner kicks on the afternoon, while the Huskies had none.
Beavers keeper Beth Lebel (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) recorded one save on her way to her first solo shutout of the season, and third of her career. Southern Maine's Marissa Temple (Grafton, Mass./Grafton) played the opening 45 minutes before Katie Cobb (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) came on for the second half, and the two combined for seven saves with Cobb taking the loss.
