UMF golf finishes fifth at NAC Championship

FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington carded a 327 on day two of the 2013 North Atlantic Conference Golf Championship, a two-stroke improvement over the Beavers' first day score.

But that was not enough to allow the Beavers to move up the standings, and Farmington finished fifth overall out of seven teams with a 656 in the NAC championship that concluded Sunday at the Samoset Resort Golf Course in Rockport, Maine.

Husson University won the event for the eighth straight year, firing a 311 on day two to finish with a score of 608. Salem State was second (613), followed by Maine Maritime (643), and Castleton (646). Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (743) and Johnson State College (765) both finished behind the Beavers.

Senior David Berthiaume was Farmington's top individual finisher, tied for 11th overall with a two-day score of 159. Berthiaume carded a 78 in Sunday's second round, after firing an 81 on Saturday.

Sophomore Simon Rollins also bettered his score on his second look at the par-70, 6108-yard Samoset course shooting an 80 in Sunday's round after posting an 82 on Saturday. His total of 162 was good enough for 17th overall.

Senior Joe Messerman, who was Farmington's top individual after the first round with a score of 80, posted an 84 on Sunday and finished 18th overall with a two-day total of 164.

Freshman Chris Wallace posted rounds of 88 and 85 to finish tied for 25th with a 173, while sophomore Aaron Rivard had a two-day card of 178 after rounds of 86 and 92.
