BANGOR, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington senior Joe Messerman carded a two-day total of 161 to pace the Beavers at the 2013 Maine State Golf Association Intercollegiate Championship, which concluded Sunday at Bangor Munipical Golf Course.
Messerman fired an 88 in Saturday's first round, which was played on Bangor Muni's "new nine" course, but came back with a 73 in Sunday's round played on the 18-hole course. He finished tied for 19th overall.
Freshman Chris Wallace posted an 87 and a 79 for a 166, while Simon Rollins posted a 168 over the two days. David Berthiaume (175) and Tom Bearor (186) rounded out the finishers for UMaine-Farmington.
Overall, UMaine-Farmington shot a 667 to finish 10th out of 11 teams in the event. Husson won the tournament with a 595, led by Porter Gervais' 143. Southern Maine (617) and UMaine-Presque Isle (636) rounded out the list of the top three teams.
UMaine-Farmington returns to the links this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22, in the Husson Invitational at the Penobscot Valley Country Club.
