WEEK RECAP
Alexandra Crocker's header in double overtime gave the Beavers a, 4-3, win over Southern Maine on Tuesday. The victory was only the second time ever UMF has topped USM.
Alexandra Crocker scored two goals and Bridget Humphrey added a goal and assisted both Crocker goals. Avalon Amador contributed the remaining UMF goal.
LAST MEETING WITH THE PILGRIMS
UMF broke the scoring drought just four minutes into the second half as Kayla Tuttle headed a ball past NEC keeper Tricia Sardagnola off Avalon Amador's corner kick service.
The two teams battled through the remainder of the game with neither team able to capitalize on its opportunities. The Pilgrims' best scoring chance came late in the game as midfielder Alyssa Krause fired a shot just wide of the net in the 85th minute.
Farmington finished the game with the 11-4 advantage in shots on goal, while each team totaled three corner opportunities on the afternoon.
ALL-TIME VS NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE
UMF holds a 2-0-1 advantage over New England College since the series began in 2011.
SCOUTING THE PILGRIMS
NEC comes into Saturday's game without allowing a goal in the past three games. The Pilgrims tied Castleton and Johnson, 0-0, and then erupted against Lyndon for a, 4-0, win.
NEC has saved 79 shots on the year, ranked third fewest in the NAC. However, the Pilgrims are tied for second for fewest goals allowed with 15.
WIN, LOSE, OR DRAW...WELL??
Tuesday's win over USM in double overtime was the first overtime win for the Beavers since 2010. The Beavers seem to like the extra minutes as UMF is, 14-8-19, since 2000. UMF does not like to surrender the game, it's either a win or a tie.
IT'S BETTER TO GIVE THAN RECEIVE
Sophomore Bridget Humphrey finds herself tied for the conference lead with seven assists. Humphrey has dished all of her assists within the past five games, including two on Tuesday versus Southern Maine. The Beavers also lead the conference with 22 assists this season.
SENIOR DAY
Prior to Sunday's game, eight seniors will be honored as it will be their last regular season home game. The honorees: Jenna Silliboy, Keli McLellan, Avalon Amador, Sara Quimby, Katie Emmons, Jenny Hayward, Alexandra Crocker, and Sarah Pokorny.
LAST MEETING WITH THE CHARGERS
Colby-Sawyer stole the show last year with a 2-0 shutout in New London. Marion James socred the first goal and got the Chargers on the board 8:26 into the game.
Sarah Little added the insurance goal in the 71st minute. Junior Sarah Little took the open space in front of her as she dribbled down the left side of the field. When Little was 25 yards away from the target, she fired a bending ball into the right corner past the keeper.
The Beavers' best chance came midway through the second half when junior Alexandra Crocker ripped a shot past the Colby-Sawyer keeper towards a seemingly open net. The Chargers' clean sheet was preserved by Tallon Tomasi who jumped in front of the net to deflect the ball away from going in.
ALL-TIME VS COLBY-SAWYER
Farmington is yet to beat Colby-Sawyer since the first meeting in 2011. CSC holds a small lead, 0-2-1.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
CSC currently rides an unprecedented seven game win streak and all seven wins have come within conference play. The Chargers have not lost in over a month, which was on September 17th after a 4-0 shutout against UMass-Boston.
PLAYERS TO WATCH THIS WEEKEND
For NEC, goalie Tricia Sardagnola leads the conference in fewest goals allowed (8) and goals against average (0.81). Sardognola has recorded 10 shutouts so far this season, including three in a row against Lyndon, Castleton and Johnson State.
For CSC, Michelle Upham leads the team with six goals and all six of those goals coming within the last four games. The senior scored a goal on Oct. 11th against Maine Maritime, two goals against Green Mountain on Oct. 14th, a goal against Lyndon on Oct. 18th, and two more against Johnston State on Oct. 19th….all CSC shutout wins.
For UMF, Avalon Amador and Alexandra Crocker have been battling for the team lead in goals scored as each sit with eight goals a piece at the moment. This weekend could determine who walks away with the scoring crown.
