RUTLAND, Vt. – The University of Maine at Farmington golf team were led by a pair of rookies at the 2015 North Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship with Eric Aguiar (Thornton, N.H./Plymouth Regional) and Michael Richard (Turner, Maine/St. Dominic) finishing the tournament with an 11th place tie.
Aguiar improved his golf game from round one by four strokes after carding an 81 in the final round for an overall tournament score of 166. Richard matched Aguiar with a 166 and closed out the day with an 85 for the final round. Husson's Greg Martin won the tournament with a four-over 144.
Senior Aaron Rivard (Acton, Maine/Sanford) closed out his final collegiate match with 178 combined score after shooting an 87 on Saturday and tied for 22nd. Gavin Brickley (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) followed Rivard by two strokes in 24th and Travis Kupec (Windsor Locks, Conn./Windsor Locks) came in a 30th place tie with an overall score fo 194.
The Beavers placed fifth overall as a team with a combined score of 686. UMF ranked fifth behind Maine Maritime Academy by 20 strokes and held a 69-stroke lead over MCLA to solidify their fifth place finish. Husson topped Salem State by 18 strokes to claim the NAC Championship crown.
UMaine-Farmington was slated to finish fifth in the NAC preseason poll and placed fifth in the final standings. The Beavers saw their best finish at the Thomas Invitational in third place.
