RUTLAND, Vt. – Michael Richard (Turner, Maine/St. Dominic) sits in an eighth place tie on Friday after the first round of the North Atlantic Conference Golf Championship, hosted at the Rutland Country Club.
Richard finished the event with an 81 behind Husson's Greg Martin and Daulton Wickenden, who lead the field with a 73. Eric Aguiar (Thornton, N.H./Plymouth Regional) trails Richard by four strokes and sits tied for 18th. Teammate Gavin Brickley (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) rounded out the event with an 86 and ranks 22nd. Aaron Rivard (Acton, Maine/Sanford) shot an 89 and finished 24th in the individual standings. Travis Kupec (Windsor Locks, Conn./Windsor Locks) is tied for 29th after the first round by carding an 89.
UMF finished the first round in fifth place on the team leaderboard with a combined score of 341. The Beavers trail Maine Maritime Academy by 10 strokes for fourth place and 16 strokes behind Castleton University. Husson leads the field of six teams with a team score of 312, which tops Salem State University by two strokes for the top spot.
The second round of the 2015 NAC Championship will get underway on Saturday at 8:24 a.m. when Green Mountain and MCLA tee off first. Those two schools will be followed by Johnson St., UMaine-Farmington and Maine Maritime before Castleton, Salem St. and Husson pair up for the final rounds of the day.
