Aguiar Lands Third Overall in First Collegiate Match

WATERVILLE, Maine – In his first collegiate match, University of Maine at Farmington newcomer, Eric Aguiar (Thorton, N.H./Plymouth Regional) tied for third overall at the 2015 UMF Invitational on Thursday, hosted at the Waterville Country Club.

Aguiar shot a 36 on the front nine and followed up with a 37 on the back nine for a 73 on the day. Aguair was only two strokes off the Unversity of New England's Paul Butkevich with the field consisting of 31 golfers. Michael Richard (Turner, Maine/St. Dominic Academy) landed in a six-way tie for fifth place after tallying a 75 on the scorecard.

Aaron Rivard (Acton, Maine/Sanford) finished with a 78 and landed in a three-way tie for 15th and Gavin Brickley (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) followed Rivard by a stroke for 18th overall. Brickley pulled himself out of a bad lie on the 13th hole with a chip-in out of the bunker.

The Beavers finished fourth overall with the top four teams being separated by only seven strokes. The team shot an overall 305, which was five strokes behind UNE for fourth. Saint Joseph's won the event with a 298 by topping the University of Southern Maine by a stroke.

UMaine-Farmington returns to the course on Tuesday at the St. Joseph's Queenan Invitational, hosted at Sebago Country Club.
