WATERVILLE, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington men's track and field freshman Alan Young (Poland, Maine/Poland) led the team with three top ten finishes on Saturday at the Colby Invitational.
Young won the high jump event by raising the bar at 1.77 meters. In the javelin throw, Young placed fifth overall at 37.80 meters behind teammate Shane Hathaway (Pittsfield, Maine/MCI) in fourth place, who threw his javelin 41.38 meters. In the 400-meter dash, Young came in sixth place at 56.78. Josh Wynne (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) crossed the line at 52.79 in the sprint race to finish fourth.
Jake Roberts had a solid run in the 400-meter hurdles race by finishing second at 1:01.46.
Zack Lavoie (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) and Austin Gatcomb (Wrentham, Mass./King Philip) grabbed third place finishes for the Beavers in the triple jump and 3,000-meter steeplechase events. Lavoie leaped 11.65 meters in the triple jump while Gatcomb finished with a time of 11:14.77 in the steeplechase race.
UMaine-Farmington will compete at the Maine State Championship next Saturday, hosted by Colby College.
