SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - University of Maine at Farmington junior standouts Andrew LaFlamme (Nashua, N.H.) and Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) each earned All-Region honors after placing inside the top eight at the New England Championships on Friday and Saturday, hosted by Springfield College.
LaFlamme kicked off the event on Friday for the Beavers, competing in the 10,000 meters. LaFlamme earned the highest finish by a men's track and field athlete at the New England Championships in program history, racing to a third-place finish. He completed the race in 32:01.02. Sophomore Alexander Gagnon (Nashua, N.H.) also competed in the event and raced to a 15th-place finish, posting a time of 33:25.78.
Crews performed exceptionally well in the shot put, earning seventh place overall en route to his first All-Region recognition. Crews' best attempt measured 14.46 meters in the event.
First-year Lucas Witkowski (Cromwell, Conn.) qualified for the New England Championships in the 400 meters. Witkowski posted a strong time of 51.75 seconds in the highly competitive field and placed 23rd overall.
Sophomore Logan Burns (Islesboro, Maine) placed 22nd overall in the long jump. Burns' best attempt measured 6.20 meters.
The Beavers also brought a 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Witkowski, Hans Bakke (York, Maine), Jake Lepper (Blue Hill, Maine), and LaFlamme to compete. The group finished with a time of 3:38.59 and placed 19th overall.
