FITCHBURG, Mass. – The University of Maine at Farmington men's outdoor track and field team finished third overall in the team standings at the Jim Sheehan Invitational on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Fitchburg State University.
Sean Cabaniss (Vassalboro, Maine/Erskine Academy) claimed a duo of second place finishes in the long jump and triple jump events. The senior leaped 6.55 meters in the long jump and 13.08 meters in the triple jump.
Shane Hathaway (Pittsfield, Maine/MCI) saw a pair of top five finishes on the afternoon. The sophomore crossed the line at 17.57 in the 110-meter hurdles race and then followed it up with a fifth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles run at 1:00.50.
In the men's high jump, three Beavers ranked in the top ten. Alan Young (Poland, Maine/Poland) led the way in fifth place by jumping 1.70 meters. Anfernee Dent (Jackson, Miss./Daegu) followed in sixth place (1.65 meters) and Jesse Enos (Rome, Maine/Messalonskee) was right behind Dent in seventh place (1.60 meters).
Josh Wynne (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.50. Connor Wagner (Bangor, Maine/John Bapst Memorial) had a solid time in the 5,000-meter run at 16:31.18 for a seventh place finish.
Robert Hollis (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) finished sixth in the 10,000-meter run at 33:45.82 and followed Wagner in ninth place in the 5,000-meter run at 16:43.88 in ninth place.
In the team relays, UMF grabbed fourth place in both competed events. With a combined time of 46:71, the Beavers topped Castleton University in the 4 x 100-meter relay to lead all North Atlantic Conference (NAC) schools in the race. In the 4 x 400-meter relay, Farmington had a total time of 3:48.93 and second among NAC schools as Castleton placed third.
On the team leaderboard, the Beavers earned a total of 58 points to grab third place.
UMaine-Farmington competes at the Bowdoin Invitational next Saturday.
