NEW BRUNSWICK, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington men's outdoor track and field placed second overall as a team on Saturday afternoon at the Bowdoin Outdoor Invitational.
Jake Roberts (South China, Maine/Erskine Academy) had outstanding performances across the board today. Roberts won the 200m dash with a time of 23.96 with teammate Darine Gnidehoue (Abidjan, Cote d'ivoire / Mt. Aratat) following in fifth place at 24.30. In the 110m hurdles, Roberts saw a third place finish at 16:13 and fourth place in the 100m dash at 11.96.
In the men's long jump, the Beavers saw three of their own place in top six. Roberts placed third at 6.0 meters and Alan Young (Poland, Maine/Poland) came in fifth at 5.75 meters. Jesse Enos (Rome, Maine/Messalonskee) followed in sixth place at 5.46 meters.
Shane Hathaway (Pittsfield, Maine/MCI) had a solid run in the 400m hurdles in second place after crossing the line at 58.15.
Hathaway and Young continued UMF's momentum in the high jump as Young placed third at 1.75 meters and Hathaway was close behind in fifth at 1.70 meters.
Zack Lavoie (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) kept things going for the Beavers in the triple jump by leaping 11.45 meters to solidify a fourth place outing.
In the 800m run, Josh Wynne (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) finished third at 2:02.91 and David Doering (Portland, Maine/Deering) trailed Wynne in fourth at 2:07.07.
In the team relays, UMF set a new personal record in the 4 x 100m relay with a time of 45.58 and placed second. The Beavers also placed second in the 4 x 400m relay with a combine time of 3:42.86.
On the team leaderboard, the Beavers earned 77 total points for a second place finish behind only the host, Bowdoin College.
UMaine-Farmington will compete at the Colby Invitational next Saturday.
