WATERVILLE, Maine -- University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) golf finished second by only one stroke on the team leaderboard at the 2016 UMF Invitational on Wednesday, hosted at Waterville Country Club.
Gavin Brickley (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) finished in a third place tie out of 39 golfers with a 72 for the round. Brickley was only one of two golfers to record an eagle. The junior sank four birdies, only one away from tying Husson's Daulton Wickendon for the most in the round. On par five holes, Brickley was tied for the lead with a two-under par.
Michael Richard (Turner, Maine/St. Dominic Academy) had an impressive round for the Beavers with a sixth place tie and only one stroke behind Brickley. Richard also had three birdies on the afternoon. Eric Aguiar (Thornton, N.H./Plymouth Regional) followed in an 11th place tie with a 77.
Trevor Hisler (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) kept pace with Aguiar and finished the round with a 78 and a 13th place tie to help the Beavers. Matt Pelletier (South Portland, Maine/South Portland) rounded out UMF's scoring with an 87.
In the round of seven teams, the Beavers finished second with a team score of 300, only one stroke behind Saint Joseph's for the crown. UMF secured the second spot by three strokes ahead of the University of Southern Maine.
UMaine-Farmington will compete in the Maine Collegiate Championship this weekend, hosted at Springbrook Country Club.
