Box Score New London, N.H. – UMaine-Farmington fell to Colby-Sawyer in the final regular-season game by a score of 5-1 on Kelsey Field on Sunday afternoon to close out the North Atlantic Conference season.
BY THE NUMBERS
The Chargers outshot the Beavers 13-5 on the day with seven shots in the first half and six in the second half. Farmington had three saves while the Chargers had two. Colby-Sawyer held a large advantage in corner kicks with 12 while UMF had zero.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chargers scored four goals in the first half with Hanna Field starting the scoring in the opening three minutes when Amanda Martin passed a ball through the middle which gave Field the opportunity to beat the keeper to the right side.
Six minutes later, McKenna Brodeur scored her 13th goal of the season when Leah Stevens passed one up and over the defenders to give Brodeur the chance to beat the goalie to the left.
Natalie Shear got in on the action after a failed clear attempt by the Beavers keeper. About 12 minutes later, Amanda Martin scored on a putback after Kiana Thompson made a save on the first shot. Corrie Hoyt then scored with five minutes left in the first half off a free kick from about 35 yards out to give the Chargers a 4-1 lead.
Midway through the second half, Molly MacLure scored on a breakaway to help the Chargers win.
UP NEXT
The Beavers will be on the road to New England College for the quarterfinals of the NAC playoffs on Saturday. Time is still to be determined.
