Beavers Take Second at North Atlantic Conference Championships

New London, N.H. – UMaine Farmington men's track team took second place in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship on a cold and rainy Sunday at the Sally Shaw Veitch Track & Field.

Colby-Sawyer, who was the preseason favorite, earned today's victory by compiling 216 points. UMaine-Farmington finished as runner-up with 127 points. Husson placed third (116), followed by Castleton (91), Green Mountain (22), Lyndon (13) and Johnson State (2).

Today at the NAC Championship the Men's team was led by senior Sean Cabaniss and junior Shane Hathaway. Cabaniss earned two first place finishes with his first of the day in the long jump event and in the triple jump event. He was also part of the 4x100 that also placed 2nd. Sean rounded out his day with a 4th place finish in the 200 and a 5th place finish in the 100. Hathaway went off scoring 33 individual points and helping the 4x100 score eight points. Hathaway set the tone with a second place finish in high jump and went on to finish second in the triple jump behind Cabaniss. He finished third in the 110 hurdles, sixth in long jump and went on to be a repeat champion in the 400 hurdles by setting a new NAC record of 1:00.06. Freshman Corey Martin stepped up big today placing second in the 400 hurdles with a personal record of 1:00.63. He also went on to place fourth in the 110 hurdles. Robbie Hollis pulled out a first place finish in one of the most exciting races of the day. Hollis crushed his previous personal record and setting a new NAC record of 15:42.93 just edging out Colby Sawyers Scott Shaw. Hollis added to his day by placing second in the 1500. Just behind him was teammate David Doering placing fourth. Doering also placed fourth in the 800. Connor Marland placed third in the steeple chase for UMF and rounding it out for the Beavers was Ben Toribio setting a personal record in long jump and placing fourth with a leap of 6.21 meters. Aidan Regan, Alan Young, David Doering and Alfred Odong placed second in the 4x400 to help the Beavers take second place in the Men's Track & Field Championships. 

Rasheed Foster earned a pair of victories for the Chargers in the sprints with meet records in the 100 meter dash in 10.98 and the 200 meter dash in 22.46. Kyle Diezel posted the top time in the 400 meter dash for the second year in a row. He finished with a meet record time of 51.27.  Brandon Legendre won the 1500 meter for the second straight season in a time of 4:16.31. Colby-Sawyer also won both relay events. The 4x100 team of Eric Morin, Kyle Diezel, Semaj Spence and Rasheed Foster clocked in at 43.77, while Diezel, Morin, Kody Frye and Legendre teamed to win the 4x400 in 3:33.44. Curtis Warren took the top spot in the pole vault for the second straight year with a school record and ECAC qualifying mark of 4.30 meters. Karl Nyholm also won two events for the second year in a row. He took the top spot in the shot put with an ECAC qualifying mark of 14.70 meters and followed with a meet record distance of 39.89 meters in the discus.
