GORHAM, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington men's golf team finished third in the modified format of the USM Cup on Friday afternoon. The unique format of the Cup calls for three pairs of players from each school playing six holes of best ball, six holes of scramble format, and the final six holes in an alternate shot format.
Southern Maine and Saint Joseph's College tied with team scores of 211 (2 under par). Going to the tiebreaker of team aggregate score (USM 11, SJC 14) on the number one handicap hole (5th hole, par 4), USM was declared the winner. The Beavers finished third at 216.
Junior Eric Aguiar and Senior Trevor Hisler tied for the low round with a 68. Teammates Gavin Brickley and Mike Richard finished one stroke behind with a 69. Senior Dan Capone and Sophomore Justin Rodrigue shot a 79 on the day.
UMaine-Farmington returns to action next Thursday (October 5th) at the Mariner Invitational played at the Augusta Country Club.
