Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – Senior forward McKenna Brodeur notched three goals and was credited with three assists and hit a pair of career milestones as she led the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team to a 7-1 victory over SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Sunday afternoon at Leib Field.
The hat trick, Brodeur's second of the season, put her over the 60-career goal mark with 61 goals over her four seasons in Maroon and White. Her nine points on Sunday versus the Wildcats gives her 155 career points, also putting Brodeur over the 150-career point threshold.
"McKenna has been a leader on the field since her first year," said Molly Wilkie, UMaine-Farmington's head women's soccer coach. "She has the ability to score from distance, in one-v-ones and off set pieces. I have seen her score incredible goals not just in conference play but against some of the best teams in our region."
"More than her tremendous ability in the attack, she has a competitive fire and team-first attitude that are at the heart of our team. She continues to set the standard for our program and I'm incredibly proud of her!" said Wilkie.
First year Abby Lash put the Beavers on the scoreboard in the game's 17th minute, with Brodeur providing the assist. Brodeur also assisted on UMaine-Farmington second goal, in the 36th minute, which was notched by Grace Mahmood – the first of her collegiate career.
Brodeur struck for the Beavers' third goal in the 37th minute, with Leah Stevens providing the assist, and Audrey Fletcher closed out the first half scoring when she finished on a Brodeur pass in the 44th minute.
That goal sent the teams into the halftime intermission with UMaine-Farmington holding a 4-0 lead.
UMaine-Farmington tacked on two insurance goals quickly in the second half, with Fletcher and Brodeur recording the scores.
Brodeur tallied the Beavers' final goal of the day in the 68th minute with her unassisted strike.
SUNY Poly spoiled UMaine-Farmington's bid for a second clean sheet in as many days on Kaitlyn Daley's goal in the 75th minute for the Wildcats.
Callie Hammer started in goal for the Beavers and recorded a pair of saves over 75 minutes, with Lily Souza finishing out the game and making one stop. Michalyn Fagan charted five saves in the SUNY Poly goal, as the Beavers outshot the Wildcats, 17-8.
UMaine-Farmington women's soccer has a week to prepare for their next contest on Saturday, Oct. 16, when it hosts Maine Maritime Academy at 12:00 p.m. on Leib Field.
